Hey!
I’ve received plenty of questions about players who had poor performances in Week 1. There’s a lot of panic going around.
Let’s talk about the 5 players that people are panicking about the most right now…
#5 Christian McCaffrey
He got out-carried by a rookie in Week 1, but I’m not concerned.
McCaffrey’s receiving work stayed elite with 8 targets and 5 catches. And his efficiency was actually way better than 2025 (6.8 YPC vs 3.9 last year).
This was a weird game all the way in Australia where the 49ers were leading big the final 1-2 quarters. There wasn’t much reason to push CMC who was reportedly dealing with cramps in this game…
#4 Colston Loveland
Loveland put up a 0 in a game where his team scored nearly 60.
I get why people are worried, but I’m not. Mainly because his offense just scored 59 points and coach Ben Johnson has said he wants to set the scoring record. This offense is going to be incredible.
Loveland played 87% of snaps and ran 92% of routes, it was the highest route share on the team. Caleb Williams only threw it 29 times because the Bears ran for 291 yards and 6 TDs.
Buy low on Loveland if you can…
#3 Drake London
London and Kyle Pitts combined for 2 catches and 29 yards. I’d be very concerned about both guys right now
This QB situation is not good. Cooper Rush was horrible in Week 1 (12/22, 143 yards, 2 picks) and mostly checked the ball down to Bijan Robinson all game.
Michael Penix plans to come back next week but he's coming off his 3rd ACL tear and was bottom-10 in QB efficiency last season…
#2 Jameson Williams
He ran the exact same number of routes as Amon-Ra St. Brown, I’m not worried about Jameson after Week 1.
He played 85% of snaps and ran 95% of routes with a 23.1% target share (8 targets). This was your typical boom or bust game out of Jameson. If you drafted him, you should know this is part of the Jameson experience.
But he’s still in this elite Lions offense that dropped 31 points Week 1, buy low…
#1 Drake Maye
I’m a bit worried about Drake Maye. He threw 3 interceptions and just lost his best WR for 4-6+ weeks.
Romeo Doubs is now the new #1, he saw 3 targets and caught none of them Week 1. Maye looked bad to end last season and now doesn’t have Stefon Diggs or AJ Brown.
The good news? The schedule now softens up (Steelers, Jaguars, Bills, Raiders, Jets, Bears). But I’m not feeling great about Maye this season…
