Here’s one quick rule I stick to every year:
Don’t draft veterans who are already injured.
Not questionable. Not day-to-day. I mean guys who are officially expected to miss regular season games.
Because the timeline almost never goes as planned.
Guys like Nick Chubb last season are the perfect example.
He entered last year already ruled out for at least 4 weeks.
So at best, you’re stashing an aging, injured veteran and hoping he gives you a few useful weeks later in the season.
And that’s the best case scenario. Not great.
These guys might look like values in the 10th round but even if they only miss a few games, it usually takes 1–3 more weeks just to get back to full snap counts.
By the time they’re truly usable, you’ve wasted a bench spot for a month - and missed your chance to grab someone who’s helping you win now.
Fantasy football is already tough enough. Don’t start the year with a self-inflicted handicap.
