I hope you enjoyed Week 1, it feels so good to have fantasy football back.
Today I want to let you know about the top waiver adds at each position. The only criteria will be that these players are available in at least 50% of leagues.
Let’s get into it, starting with the running back position…
RB: Kaelon Black
The 49ers rookie RB looked great in Week 1. He handled 15 touches in a Christian McCaffrey backfield, that rarely happens.
Black played on 44% of the snaps while earning 50% of the backfield carries. He didn’t see much passing down work, but overall this was a great rookie debut.
Now let me be clear, I don’t think this will be an even split moving forward. This was a game all the way in Australia and the 49ers were leading big by the 3rd quarter.
My guess is they were playing it safe with McCaffrey. But Black now looks like the best handcuff in fantasy…
WR: Caleb Douglas
The talk out of Dolphins camp was that Douglas was their WR1. He even was used like a WR1 with the starters in preseason.
And then Week 1 happened, Douglas played 91% of the snaps and earned a 24% target share. He turned his 6 targets into 5 catches for 94 yards.
Douglas has a nice combination of size + speed. That was evident while watching this game. If the rookie looks this good after Week 1, it’s worth spending some FAAB on him.
We probably won’t get many more opportunities like this all season…
TE: Michael Mayer
He led the Raiders in Week 1 with 7 targets on looked like their most consistent passing game option.
However, the Raiders played with a lead all game. Miami didn’t force Kirk Cousins to have to pass much. This led to Ashton Jeanty having a big game on the ground.
The Raiders are hopeful Brock Bowers returns Week 2, but there’s a good chance he missed this game. If so, Mayer would be the #1 TE to target on waivers…
QB: Tyler Shough
He looked bad in the 1st half of Week 1 against the Lions. But then Shough and the entire Saints offense turned things around.
He finished Week 1 with a career-high 410 passing yards & 3 touchdowns. Now, he threw 56 times, which isn’t sustainable moving forward, but the Saints are expected to play at a fast pace this season.
They should run a lot of plays this year & that’ll help Shough’s weekly fantasy value…
